Case Study 2: New Commercial Subsidiary in Palestine
Opportunities abound in unlikely circumstances. But who would think of starting a business in Palestine? Principal Martin Thomas did. He helped an organization envision and think through two plausible scenarios in an area often over-looked as "war-torn." If peace and free trade broke out, the organization could be well-positioned to be an early provider of import/export services. If conditions deteriorated, the organization could focus on manufacturing to supply the local market. Even a small injection of foreign capital would be welcomed by the Palestinian Authority. Under Martin’s responsibility, a local wholly-owned company was registered and used as a basis for expanding the business. Exceptionally favourable terms for trading and dividends remittance were obtained with the early commitment, and the company flourished despite the difficult environment; see http://www.birzeit.edu/anouncements/news-d?news_id=102308 for news of its latest initiative in Palestine. |
